Bass trombonist Mitch Mangan is the newest member of the band. The Manchester native joined the Hartford Jazz Orchestra in April, 2022 when we started playing at Elicit Brewing.

Mitch earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education degree from Western CT State University and is currently Band Director at Bulkeley High School in Hartford, CT. Mitch is also the bass trombonist in Mike Palin’s The Other Orchestra and Evan Gray’s Affinity Big Band. Mitch has a very wide musical palette and cites his favorite bands and artists as Kamasi Washington, Steely Dan, Snarky Puppy, Lake Street Dive, Earth Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder, The Head and the Heart, Michael McDonald, Robert Glasper, and Kendrick Lamar. As a trombonist he’s influenced by Charlie Vernon, George Roberts, Jim Nova, Jennifer Wharton, Ivan Chinchilla, Bill Reichenbach, and Ryan Porter.
